Evidence for QCF Diploma's and the new Care Certificate

Staff undertaking a QCF Diploma that successfully complete the Care Certificate theory course, can use the certification as evidence of knowledge in their Diploma portfolios.

The certificates can also be used when inspected by Care Quality Commission (CQC) to demonstrate that the home takes compliance with the Care Standards and the new Care Certificate seriously. In addition it confirms that staff undertake regular training to raise their knowledge and improve the standard of care they provide.

The new Care Certificate became a requirement for those working within the Care Sector in 2015. The cost is £24.95 + VAT. So for total fee of £29.94 per employee you are able to demonstrate compliance to CQC by having staff studying for the Care Certificate. Staff are able to log on during quiet periods and or study in their own time if preferred. For staff whose first language is not English the online courses incorporate video training as well as spoken instruction and written questioning.

Care Certificate Recommendations

Health Education England, Skills for Care, and Skills for Health, made a number of recommendations which were agreed by the Department of Health Governance Assurance Board:

  • The 15 standards should remain, subject to some amendments
  • Individuals will need to complete all 15 standards to be awarded the Care Certificate
  • The Certificate should be prioritised by employers for “new staff, new to care"
  • 12 weeks will remain as the guidance timeframe for a full-time individual to complete the Care Certificate
  • The minimum level for quality assurance of the Care Certificate, and the certification itself, will be the responsibility of employers
  • In addition to events and workshops, a suite of materials will be made freely available for employers to download and use to support them in implementing the Care Certificate

The Care Certificate replaces both the Common Induction Standards and the National Minimum Training Standards.
